Volunteering with MCHS-Rice Lake

Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake, part of Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS), welcomes individuals and groups to volunteer for a variety of opportunities to improve the quality of life and health within local communities. Book Cart Monitor

Monitors and stocks the magazines available for guests and visitors in designated lounge areas throughout Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake. Straighten lounge area; discard any materials (pamphlets, flyers, magazines) left behind by visitors.


Cardiac Rehab Assistant

Assist therapist as needed. Assist with preparation of therapy materials, such as applying electrodes to monitors. Make copies and file client charts. Disinfect equipment (mats, balls, weights, exercise equipment, chairs, tables, etc.) between clients.


Knit or crochet baby caps and comfort shawls given to all babies born at Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake. Sew walker bags for Joint Camp patients.

Companion Volunteer and On Call Companion

Provide companionship to patients who are anxious, lonely, or confused. Engage patient in activities, such as reading, playing cards or playing board games. Offer complimentary items from Hospitality Cart to patients and visitors. Assist patients with TV operation, adjusting blinds, room temperature, room service, as needed.

Emergency Department Assistant

Complete hourly rounds in waiting room. Straighten reading material. Sanitize all surfaces (chairs, doors, tables, wheelchairs), as needed. Monitor TV and offer channel changes to visitors. Replenish coffee station and offer coffee to visitors. Escort visitors to treatment rooms. Keep blankets stocked in warmer.


Welcome and direct guests at main lobby entrance. Ask each guest to sign in and escort them to their destination. Assist guests with wheelchairs and transport them to their destination. Deliver paperwork, flowers, mail, cards within the hospital.


Gift Shop Attendant

Greet customers and answer questions related to merchandise. Operate cash register and make change. Assist in keeping the shop tidy and attractive; dust shelves and restock merchandise as needed.

Information Desk/Greeter

Welcome and direct guests at main lobby entrance. Ask each guest to sign in and work with Escort volunteer to get guests to their destination. Notify staff of visitors.

Joint Camp Assistant

Assist with pre-op class. Obtain lunches. Escort patients for lab work. Prepare and distribute therapy materials, exercise forms, name tags, and ice. Organize patient books. Collect labels for hospital charges.

Lifeline Volunteer

Call Lifeline subscribers from office and assist with walking through testing procedure for unit. Install Lifeline units in subscriber’s homes. Clean Lifeline units, buttons, cords, necklaces.

Mail/Clerical Assistant

Retrieve mail from clinic and sort by department in Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake mail room. Various clerical duties, such as folding/stuffing envelopes, data entry, and filing.


Oncology Volunteer

Work closely with support group leaders. Visit with patients and deliver snacks, drinks, warm blankets, etc. Organize magazine and patient education materials in rooms and waiting areas. Stock rooms and patient snack area. Direct and accompany patients to destinations within campus. Write sympathy and thank you cards.

Outpatient Surgery Escort

Transport independent patients by wheelchair and accompany ambulatory patients to waiting vehicle upon discharge. Stock refrigerator, fill coffee machine, and replenish supplies. Stock blanket warmer, deliver food trays to patients, provide refreshments to patients, as requested.

Pediatric Clubhouse Assistant

Create a welcoming and comfortable experience for guests ad sponsors. Assist receptionist and therapy staff with organization, cleaning, material preparation, and therapy sessions for outpatient clients.

Pharmacy Volunteer

Provide assistance to Pharmacy staff, as needed. Check stock for outdated medications. Pick up patient medications brought from home and deliver upon discharge.

Surgical Waiting Area Assistant

Manage the flow of guests in the surgery waiting room, provide updates as available, and escort sponsors to consultation room for post-surgery meeting. Issue pagers to guests/sponsors leaving surgery area, activate to alert family to return to waiting area. Monitor refreshment station, re-stock as needed.
